For the Guitar Solo, I believe Tom Morello uses a
Digitech Whammy Pedal set to Harmonized 5ths. I'm
positive that he uses that in "Know Your Enemy" and
am assuming he does the same in this song to
replicate that sound.
For the High D in the verses of this song, you can
either play a D on the 3rd fret of the B string while
having your Whammy Pedal set to +2 Octaves, play
the 10th fret on the E string than lightly tap the 22nd
fret to achieve a tapped harmonic, or simply just play
the 22nd fret on the E string. Either one you choose
should have the same sound so don't yell at people if
they play it a different way then you!
As Always Enjoy and don't get too hung up on the
solo...
